How do we go about finding the period in this problem? And from there we plug it into F=-kx with x being how much the glider was pushed in in cm?
The period is the length of time it takes to make one oscillation. You told how long it takes to make a specific number of oscillations, and that should be enough to get the period.
Use the fact that the period is the number of seconds it takes to make an oscillation. So, T=time/oscillations. Then use equation 9.5.
I cannot seem to calculate the proper spring constant using T = 2pisqrt(m/k) solving for K. What could I possibly be doing wrong?
I'm trying the same thing, and I can't get it either....what's wrong?
As long as the units and algebra are correct, T = 2pi*sqrt(m/k) is the correct thing to use
